Email Campaigns
Writing compelling email campaigns is a core competency for any content marketer. This page contains a sample sequence that illustrates my ability to write compelling short content and click-worthy subject lines. I also have a lot of experience writing sequences around specific keywords for use in targeted marketing campaigns (for an ABX approach). Contact me to request more work samples.
Sample Sequence
This sequence was created as a nurture campaign for a collections service provider.

Subject: Are you wearing pants right now?
[Name], you might not believe this…
A recent survey revealed that nearly half of people working from home don’t wear pants.
In fact, as many as 1 in 14 say they never wear pants while 22% said they do “most of the time.”
Aren’t personal preferences funny? You know, it might sound strange for a collections agency but studying consumer preferences is a big part of what we do.
Can I send you some materials that explain why?

Subject: Caught with your pants down.
[Name], are you a “sometimes” pants wearer like 12% of remote workers?
Wait, don’t tell me.
Some personal preferences are TMI.
Do you know what ones aren’t though? When and how you prefer to be contacted.
At [business name omitted], we use technology to identify consumer preferences to make sure we are contacting the right person, at the right time. That way we can ensure more productive conversations and a more positive consumer experience (and we aren’t catching anyone with their pants down).
I’d love to schedule a zoom with you to show you how it works.
Does Tuesday at 11 am work?

Subject: My cat wants to kill me
[Name], do you like cats?
So many people typed “my cat wants to kill me” into google that now the phrase auto-populates.
(Go ahead and try it, this email can wait a second).
Someone who has never owned a cat might see that and think the worst, but those of us who have cats know there’s nothing to be scared of (in fact, we might even it kind of endearing). This illustrates the power of language and how easily things can be misinterpreted based on your experience or lack thereof. This is often also the case with the term “debt collector” (don’t google it) which is why we adopted a fresh approach for contacting consumers.
Can I send you a PDF about it?

[Name], if you aren’t looking up funny cat videos online then maybe you should.
Studies show watching cat videos are good for your health.
Now that you know, I bet you’ll look at some today, probably even tomorrow too.
Isn’t funny how we can adopt a new behavior when we know something benefits us? That’s actually a key part of our approach with consumers. At [business name omitted], agents are trained to make account resolution a team effort, helping to educate consumers so they make better decisions for their financial health.
I’d love to chat with you about our approach and how we are using behavioral science.
Do you have time for a zoom call next week? (I’ll bring a funny cat meme).

Subject: You’re killing your phone, stop it.
[Name], if you are like most of us then you are charging your phone wrong.
Leaving it plugged in for long periods (like when you sleep) is actually killing your battery.
To extend the life of your battery, and your phone, you are supposed to keep it charged between 30-50%- seems counter-intuitive, doesn’t it?
Sometimes less is more. That’s exactly our strategy when contacting consumers and it works.
Can I send you a PDF that explains how?

Subject: Step away from the phone charger.
[Name], are you still over-charging your phone?
It can be hard to change old habits.
But, just because you’ve been doing something a certain way for a long time doesn’t make it the best way.
We have found this is how a lot of businesses treat their collection processes. At [business name omitted] we operate on a philosophy of continuous improvement and that gives us the unique advantage of, well, change. Our processes constantly evolve which is probably why we see results 5-10% higher than the industry average.
[Name], I’d like to show you what I mean, do you have time for a zoom this week?
